Sculpture Workshop – An Open Studio for Students

It is worth emphasizing that heykel.org is not simply a production studio. The studio has adopted a second mission: opening its doors to sculpture department students and contributing to their professional development. Working experience in a real studio environment is invaluable for translating the theoretical knowledge learned at university into practice. To meet this need, heykel.org guides students and facilitates the transfer of experience across a wide spectrum from material use to compositional decisions. The scene in the photograph reflects exactly this process: an experienced master evaluating a work together with the young eyes gathered around him. This environment means both an unparalleled learning ground for students and a source of fresh perspectives for the studio.

The collaboration maintained with faculty members from Atatürk University's Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Sculpture, is also the institutional extension of this educational vision. This bridge between the academic world and applied art production allows the studio to both maintain high quality standards and function as a center for the production and transmission of knowledge. It is also worth noting that our lead sculptor graduated from this very department with a second-place distinction.

Production Capacity and Material Variety

The heykel.org studio has the capacity to produce in a wide range of materials, chief among them marble, granite, bronze, stainless steel, fiberglass, resin, and industrial clay. Sculpture Workshop SSS

A sculpture workshop is a hands-on studio practice where participants learn to create sculpture using clay, stone, or other materials under the guidance of an experienced sculptor. At heykel.org, the workshop process goes beyond technical instruction — it offers the opportunity to be directly involved in real commission projects and experience firsthand how art comes to life in a professional studio environment. Based in Erzurum, our studio runs the learning process alongside 22+ years of expertise and live ongoing projects.

Yes, sculpture department students are welcome to join our studio. A real workshop environment is invaluable for turning theoretical university knowledge into practical skill. At heykel.org, we see meeting this need as an important responsibility. Students have the opportunity to closely follow live commission processes, learn material handling, and work under the guidance of our lead sculptor Volkan Doğan. We also maintain active collaborations with faculty members from Atatürk University's Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Sculpture.

Yes, materials beyond clay can also be taught within the scope of our active commission processes. Our studio produces in a wide range of materials including marble, granite, fiberglass, resin, and stainless steel and when there is a live order involving a particular material, the relevant techniques are shared through hands-on practice. This approach allows students to encounter different materials in both a theoretical and real project context. The availability of specific materials may vary depending on the studio's current workload and order schedule.

At this stage, our studio is open only to sculpture department students and studio staff. A workshop program for individuals from other departments or those without formal sculpture training has not yet been established.
